I just took a look at it, but it looked as though it was
completely on linmodems, which isn't what I'm trying to do,
since I have a PnP modem. I have, however, been reading
the howtos for PnP, modems, and serial ports, along with

As those who've been following this thread know, I'm
trying to get a PnP modem to work. I'm using Definite 7.0
(which is based on Red Hat); kernel version 2.2.12-10.
(The modem is a Motorola VoiceSURFR 56k.)
I'm definitely grokking things better now, with help from

If you have an ISA modem that is a real modem, it has a UART, and that (not
a "serial port", though serial ports also

No problem here. My modem is on com3/irq4 and my com1
(still connected) is also on irq4. It's been like this
for a couple of years with no problems. Of course, my

man pages I've read seem to imply that /dev/modem
should be a com port for an ISA modem, but I don't
think any of them explicitly say it, so maybe I
misunderstood them."
Out of curiousity -- do most ISA modems act like
serial port devices even in Windo

Most internal ISA modems supply or emulate standard serial port
hardware so a link to /dev/ttyS* is qui

I think you do need /dev/ttySx i used to have an isa modem but cant quite
remember how i used it, i will try and explain.
If I have an ISA modem, what should /dev/modem be a link to?
Not /dev/ttyS*, because those are serial ports, right?
Thanks for your help.
