Not that I'm against Python (in fact I love it), but statements of these kind are subjective and useless. AFAIK, Python is *supposed* to be slower than Perl in string manipulation (and remember that Python strings are immutable so if you're not careful you'll be creating memory copies all the time). And Python is supposed to be slower than PHP4+Zend because it's not the specific tool for the job (and the Python bytecode could be more optimized).
