On a "general use" system, as opposed to a "dedicated server" like a
news server, it might be really helpful to be able to partition a raid
device.  I'm getting ready to build a new box this week and would love
to be about to throw 5 4 gig drives in there and have a 16 gig drive
space and deal with the partitioning after that.

I could build a basic box, leave a large amount of free space and later
partition that extra space as the use became more defined.  I would know
that all the partitions would be protected by the raid software, without
defining and creating multiple raid partitions.
