Hi,

We just bought 2 Dell servers (PowerEdge 2450) with Dell's RAID
controller
(PERC 3) and installed a RedHat 6.2 distribution on them. The issues
are:

- the driver is not included in RedHat standard distribution, we had to
download it from Dell website.

- We also downloaded an RPM package with utilities for online monitoring
of the controller but could not install it (we are waiting for more
information from Dell support)

So, current status is that our servers are up and running but we cannot
monitor their raid controllers operation online and we need that to use
them as production machines (they will be Web servers located at remote
locations). We just received these machines last week so this status may
change in the near future (I hope so ;)

Also, it seems that this driver is not Open Source (I am not sure of
that,
I have to check it again with Dell) so we may be locked by Dell future
decisions to support it or not in new Linux kernel releases.

I have also used Mylex RAID controllers on previous (non Dell) servers,
their driver (DAC960) is included in RedHat distributions, they work
fine and are easy to monitor online.

For now I think that are future servers may come from Dell but with
Mylex RAID controllers.

Regards
