And whats when /dev/sda failed? In this case LILO not presents on /dev/sdb, hmm? I installed patched lilo (from sources in redhat distribution) and used separate lilo.conf for each disk as its described in Boot+Root+Raid+Lilo HOWTO from metalab.unc.edu. It works - now my debian starts from each disk, even after swapping them or uplugging one of them. M.P.
