Recently there has been some discussion pertaining to hardware RAID controllers and various people (myself included) have recommended the Mylex ExtremeRAID.
I do want to mention that if you are considering this (or other Mylex) card, keep in mind that the driver is a generic block device driver, NOT a SCSI driver. This means there is no support for SCSI devices other than hard drives attached to the Mylex card. No CDROM, tape, CDR, etc.
Most people who are looking at these cards are doing so for performance, and as such would not connect such devices anyway. However, I did think it should be mentioned.
