I've used A James Lewis' procedure (thank you) to mirror root on a couple of
systems w/ rh 6.0 (kernel 2.2.10). I tried my 1st 6.1 (kernel 2.2.12)
machine & it didn't work, yet.

After creating the mdx root partition & copying the files, I ran lilo &
rebooted. OK. At this point, instead of successfully booting as under rh
6.0, 6.1 stops with the errors:

mount point /proc does not exist
mount returned non-zero exit status
/proc not mounted, failed to mount

At this point nothing happens until I Ctrl-D & then am dropped into a bash
prompt. I'm trying to get going again & point root back to sdax, but lilo
complains with:

can't locat module block-major-3

what happened? this worked so well before.
