My roommate solved the problem for me. He typed: raidhotadd /dev/md0 /dev/hde3 This started the resyncing of the drives. /proc/mdstat shows the reconstruction.

I tested the Raid 5 setup by pulling the cable off one of the drives (not the one with the swap) while it was running. It correctly determined that one drive went down and continued in degraded mode. I plugged the drive back in and rebooted, but the raid is not resyncing itself. Mkraid wants to d
