Hm, I had similar problems but not during installation. I see you are using an IBM disk - maybe this is damaged (in my case two IBMs had damaged controllers). Try also disabling "disconnect/reconnect" for the disk - if you got timeouts again, the disk maybe the problem. Can you try it with
