I can raidhotremove the (simulated-)faulty disk, and then physically remove
it. Next, I put the disk back in physically. I then want to run raidhotadd to
add the disk back into the array and begin reconstruction.
Problem is, when I run raidhotadd, the system totally locks

Does anyone know why?

I'm having some error message when I tried 'raidhotadd' on a
RAID1 array, which consist of 2 IDEs the # of cylinders is 1048,
heads is 255:

Normal operation is fine. When I simulate a failure by shutting down the
system, removing one drive and powering it up again, it works as
expected (i.e. boots, complains that the mirror is missing but
continues). At this point, I can use raidhotadd to add a fresh partition
to the set and the kernel
can i add a partition to a running raid-array with raidhotadd?
and how is the right syntax ... there's no manpage and the help is
really short.

Hi,
I followed your discussion a little bit, having a question to the fdisk: what
did you mean by "changing the partition type for sda2 to fd"?
Is it an option to fdisk or does it mean to "fdisk" the drive again (building a
"new" partition sda2)?

Yup.

I have heard that it isn't done (yet) because of the fear of not getting the
checks that
dy to put the box into production.
The only other mystery right now is why I can't raidhotremove
a disk. It says it is busy (it is). I was expecting
raidhotremove to be able to yank it out anyway.

Bingo!
Many thanks.

Hmm -- sounds to me like "raidhotadd" isn't re-writing the SB -- sorry, I don't
know how that code works :-(
What does a
1
device /dev/sdc2
raid-disk 2
Then changed sda2 to raid-disk and did a raidhotadd. It
worked fine.
My problem is that whenever I boot now, the array comes
up without sda2. I can raidhotadd sda2 and things are happy
until the next reboot.
How can I make
Is there any documentation around describing how
to use the raidhotadd and raidhotremove commands.
AFAICS there are no manual pages and nothing in
the raidtools directory describes the commands.
The reason: we've been having some problems during
testing. If I turn off a disk, then the

It's an even less likely case: adding a drive that has a completely

I did reboot the raid5 machine and tried raidhotadd again. Worked
without problem.
hde1 was rebuilt in the background and marked online in mdstat after
that.
So this is the only significant issue in the 98-12-14/15 alpha release I
encountered so far:
hotadding a drive that previously

when you "make install" the raidtools v0.90, it should create a symlink
for raidhotadd -> raidstart (same for raidhotremove and raidstop)
