I'm trying to get up and running a linear array from a previous (2.0.33) installation. I remember the I did not need to patch the kernel, and that I used mdtools back then. Now, the mdtools site in France is closed, and the use of raidtools is advertised. Nevertheless, the raidtools require kernel patches, and the kernel patches are mostly broken (or at least in my case). Before I go ahead and kill several nights to debug them, I'd like to ask a question. Is there a way to use _linear_ raid with some combination of an unpatched kernel (2.2.2 preferred, but others accepted) and some version of raid/md/tools that can work with an unpatched kernel.
