Hi, I'm going to lump a bunch of things into one email to save your patience.
kernel: 2.6.13 SMP
First, my PCI card probes as ehci but doesn't really seem to work very well:
$ cat /proc/bus/usb/devices
T: Bus=04 Lev=00 Prnt=00 Port=00 Cnt=00 Dev#= 1 Spd=480 MxCh= 4
B: Alloc= 0/800 us ( 0%),
What does this error mean exactly? It just started recently.

I did the first part already. There are many Canon Powershot cameras
there, but not the S50. That leads me to believe it won't be hard to
add.
I'm using 2.6.12 and have applied a patch for t
Hey, I plugged the Canon S50 in the other day and nothing happened;
well technically it brought up gthumb but it couldn't read/write the
images from the camera. What do I need to do to support this device?
Where do I start?
TIA

In the old RS-232 serial port days, sometimes the UART would produce
garbage on the first character after a mode change; perhaps the USB
code throws away the first char for this reason. I guess it takes a
read of one byte to synchronize the start/stop and flow control
settings. Just a guess.

Yeah. The MFR's specs say OHCI, but the VIA chipset generally mean
Strange they don't have *scan*codes, but probably not a problem.
Typo.

xmodmap maps keycodes into keysyms.
Strange they don't have keycodes, but probably not a problem.

I bought it because it said:
