to let nick & mathew know i can now get access to the BSD distro. It appears that even tho i had a boot loader in the MBR MDK still had the HD set as a ext3 partitioned drive and scewed it up (twice) as i have now installed BSD 3 times. and i am using lilo. thanks for the help folks. -- Dave
