Are you sure you need the any to any patch?
I've just installed vmware-server 1.04 on gutsy 32 bit. The patch was
NOT required.
All it required was build-essential and xinetd.
I understand that 64 bit host used to be difficult, but latest reports
seem to indicate it all works as for 32 bit.
