There have been a few comments about access to ftp.nz.debian.org (ftp.citylink.co.nz) being difficult for some... I Contacted the ADSL helpdesk, and spoke to a very nice chap (who shall remain anonymous), that was going to look into the issue. He enquired with the Telecom NOC, and got this as a reply (Titled "Citylink/GGI Peering"):
> Xtra and GGI customers trying to access the NZ mirror for the Debian > distribution of Linux (hosted by CityLink) are no longer able to do so. > Access to the live CityLink web cams is impacted as well. > > Recent changes we made to WIX peering has forced our customer traffic to > go to CityLink and their downstream customers (including the Debian mirror > and the CityLink web cams) via international data circuits. CityLink have > now decided to disable international access so our customers have no way > of connecting to their servers as we do not peer with them. > > ISP's impacted by CityLink's change appear to include Telecom (GGIS), > Xtra, AT&T, Ihug, and Orcon. > > A customer's only alternative at this stage for accessing a Debian mirror > without being charged for international traffic is to use Ihug's mirror at > debian.ihug.co.nz as it is housed in NZ and Ihug are a peering partner of > ours. I figured that the ADSL helpdesk was the best place to ask, since they're somewhat more knowledgable about what's going on. Anyway, it proved fruitful. It's a shame really, work is also a Telecom (GGI) customer :/ Anyway, He who shall remain anonymous made this observation in his reply to me: > I believe they will be working on a solution, but the chances of either of > us being notified when this takes effect are slim. So, we can but hope, cross our fingers, and hope the big kids with the routers stop throwing their toys.
