There is no agreed position for Civil Society in NZ. There is a list
anyone can join. Contact me if you are interested. It's a list for
the willing as Zane said.

On the world stage the following topics are being discussed.

A global knowledge commons
Many cultures and languages on the Internet
Open Standards (and Open Source Software).
Peer to Peer equality particularly Gender Equality.
Confirmation of the Universal Declaration of HR (1948)
Opposition to surveillance and censorship.

In New Zealand the discussion is about these topics.

1. New Zealand Government Engagement in the WSIS?
2 The Digital Divide
3. Information Awareness
4. Personal Knowledge
5. Indigenous Knowledge
6. Community Building and the Internet
7. Broadcast Communication and Targeted Communication
8. Privacy and the Internet
9. Who’s Information is Available?
10. Who’s got Access to the Internet?
11. Internet Safety and Education
12. Pacific Island Access to the Internet
13. Innovation and the Internet
14. Archives of New Zealand Internet Publications
15. Communication Rights
16. Destructive Acts Against Communication Capability
17. Recognition of Information Workers

Like any open source project it's a bit messy to understand all the
pieces, and nobody has stepped into the arena and said, "It's time to
tidy this up and come to some specific resolutions."

Since we are not going to "be there" it's perhaps best if we just
discuss widely and openly. That's why I've tried to give you guys a
chance to see what's happening. The two "government representatives"
will be aware of the discussion. That's probably the best we can
hope for this year.

Cheers
John
