Yes rebooted and it now sort of works with manual modprobing the driver
module.
This is an improvement on the previous where it was compiled in, and would not
work at all.
Setting it up to work properly will be thrown open to all as a challenge at
next weeks meeting.

Recompiled the kernel with sound drivers as modules, ran alsaconf and it now

If Nick is using the box I think he is using then I can confirm that the
isa sound card seemed to work with some distros but not others (easily).
I used the same machine as a Gentoo server without the need to have

Hi,
Quick recap: there are glitches in the audio played by this sound card.
That suggests to me that ioport/irq are correct.
If you switch to console only (run level 3) and type
play audiofile.wav
is there any significant difference in the glitch pattern ?

These are the values where the card driver expects them to be, and which
the driver registered with the kernel. How confident are you that the
card does in fact have its IRQ and IO range at these places?
I'm asking because just yes
ulty is that he has not set up the ioports and
irq settings correctly - to say nothing of dma channel for the sound card.
Particularly the latter.
