I've tested booting with different kernels
and everything worked just fine.
I believe now this is definitely related to
the kernel upgrade process in Ubuntu.
Something I also noticed with my camera
(Sphere AF) is that after booting, the first time
I start the camera it takes at least seven sec

I've tested this again, and I can confirm that in my case the problem
only occurs
after the first boot folowing a kernel upgrade.

Thought I would have a go at compiling a new version.
Downloaded from the new site, rmmod uvcvideo, did a make, make install.
Did not see a single error come up.

Not in my case.
I have to do an rmmod/modprobe after EVERY boot.
