SELF: compile of util-linux

Scratch question 2 ... I thin the answer is that "patch" basically buts in the files necessary to build a cross compiled version of "util-linux" after I patch I think this will mean that the SED command will find some matches ... I didn't need the "patch part" to build busy box (0.60.5) when

Hi, I am just browsing through the SELF code ... and trying for kicks to make "my own version" as an exercise to learn more about packages required for a running embedded Linux system ... So far I have ... 1.) Built uclibc 2.) Built busybox with uclibc gcc wrappers 3.) Built insmod with uclibc

For what it's worth, I've done a couple of quick-and-dirty devices, in the way you described (mmap from user space). And you are right that (1) an app may not crash the kernel as easily -- but remember that a root application can mmap *anything*, and (2) you don't have to reboot the kernel to try

Given that, do you know what is the convention if I need to address the GPIO pins in the 860? I have some FPGA which require me to download the FPGA code and they are controlled via JTAG from my GPIO pins out of 860. I can use mmap to map the ppc 860 internal memory (the quick dirty way just to

Hello, This is probably one of those silly questions again, and I seem to be having a lot of them lately. I will like to access some memory mapped registers through user space applications. Do i just use the "mmap" function calls to map the physical memory to my user space? My BR/OR registers ar

Hi, I'm migrating the linux kernel on a custom 8xx board from 2.4.4 to 2.4.21 (from linuxppc_2_4_devel tree) and had such a problem at the last step of compilation. ppc_8xx-ld -T ../ld.script -Ttext 0x0018 -Bstatic -o zvmlinux head.o ../comm on/relocate.o misc-embedded.o ../common/misc-comm

Hi, we are developing a custom board based on mpc8260eds board and planning to run linux on it. We require a tool to debug the kernel and ppcboot, if required. I have been following the recent ( and ongoing ) discussions on bdi2000. I have recommended the company to buy bdi2000. The company is con

Now that I have a Linux running with networking on a PrPMC800 running as NON-MONARCH, I wonder if anybody knows about a program that can start a fresh linux kernel from the filesystem. The reason I need this, is that the PrPMC800 PPC-Bug does not support network booting for NON-MONARCH operation (
