I can and probably will expand a bit on what is off topic, but I think I
have spelled out some of it clearly.
In my mind, it is important is that it is of value to the group, and
specifically related to linux, free/open source software, related

I think when you decide to have a closed list, it is certainly as
appropriate to just compose e-mails to each other that you want to send
the private messages to.

yes, I agree there needs to be more clarification. the thing is: windows

it runs open source software, sometimes you have to integrate it with

apologies for getting back home and to this e-mail so late.

"this is a food fight" and "why is this public?"

Since it seems that we are "formalizing" socallinux.org, wouldn't it be nice
if we actually engaged more in related community events? It is not uncommon

Since SCALE is happening soon, why not present something? I remembe
My post on shortened urls was related to needing a restriction on content.
It had nothing to do with banning shortened urls only that with
questionable content not being explicitly banned there is a higher chance
the content being linked to is of a questionable nature. The charter does

I second this, we could just theoretically add another mailling list to the
socallinux listserv, something like linuxusers-offtopic or
offto...@socallinux.org.
Or even something as simple as gene...@socallinux.org
Just my 2cents.

I don't know if this is a big thing but in Article 3 of the charter, the second
sentence refers to accounts on the socallinux.org website. I know that people
could make accounts before with the previous site but will that feature come
back? Just wondering so people don't get confused by that pa
On a somewhat serious note, it sounds like we need a separate "collision
domain" where the soi-disant "asinine" chatter can flow a bit more freely.
I'm totally cool with that, as this listserv is public facing. Set up back
channels, and chances are that this list will improve its noise ratio.

I wanted to point out to everyone that I have enhanced some of the
language in the charter.
Please note the following:
- Re-worded section 1 of Article 4.
- Detailed requirements (last paragraph) of moderators.
Please reply with any feedback on the Charter, it's goals and purpose,

Hi Everyone,

There have been 22 replies to that message (not including this one).

GPL Hate? No! Last year I wore my GPLv3 shirt to SCALE all day!!! ;-)
By the way, the charter calls is GNU/Linux... can we just call it Linux? j/k

Hi Jesus,
Sorry I won't be around to chat about sasl in IRC today, I am having to
help a car-less friend get around, so I'm going to be on the road most
of the day. I'll try to find time either this evening or later this
week, and also I can do a write-up of what little I know about sasl and

Maybe the issue with laptop protection isn't so much "before you leave
the country", but should really be "before you let your laptop out of
