They were actually a production machine, albeit they only made around 25 due
to problems with the parent company.

Some great FF's have been made from the VF, have a rummage around the

Another problem (which I'm going to have to deal with on my beemer) is the
shaft drive makes it hard to alter gear ratios to zero in on performance
vs. speed.

smooth outer casings. The Etek was redesigned that way, since it overheats
quite easily. It's only the Perm with it's peripheral cooling slots that
really seems to have a problem.
In any case if you keep the peak motor temperature down, you shouldn't have
a problem.

I love that flip open cover. Is that stock or did you make that?
The bodywork is all standard. That's the advantage of converting a water
cooled stinkwheel (two stroke). You've got fuel, water, and oil tanks
sitting under a dummy tank cover.

There's a picture of Tony on my Scirocco website. It's the last one in the

track idea has been tried before. Sometimes with fatal results if
dirt causes the track to stick. If the clearances are too wide, you may
experience chatter under various loads.
You look to have quite a lot of inertia around the steering axis, do you
have a steering damper?

Optima casing as the same width as height, excluding the terminals, so I
didn't have to do much to the frame. I just shortened it a bit, which makes

Well, I recognise the first one. The builder send me a picture a couple of
weeks back.
I'll not drop his name if he hasn't broken cover, but I made a safe and
progressive throttle linkage for his 383 Chevy engined 914 and he drove the
#13 914 EV at the last Phoenix EV circuit races.

special tooling. Years ago Prestolite motors in the US used metric bearings
internally since they knew that metric bearings are less than half the cost
