There is no OOB way to do it, so I can only suggest either development or
buy a third party solution
(http://www.infowise.co.il/Product_ConnectedFields_2007.aspx  for example)

Developing a web part may be a good solution - but difficult - and you will
have to replace the edit form for that document library (do you need your
solution to be scalable, or is it just for a single document library?)

 

A better solution may be to create a custom field type that inherits from
the multi-column field, and stores the information in it. There is an
example of that in the SDK.
