I think it would be cool if LMMS had an OSC frontend. I used LMMS with my 2
android tablets and an app called touchOSC. It can connect via Wifi and
works really well. The only problem is that its an paid app, but I dont
think an free LMMS remote for android would be extremly hard to program.

The user can have the option to use bluetooth if they are in the same room or
wifi if they are on the same wifi network

Apparently the technology is called rtpMIDI.
OSX has support for it natively and Windows software is here:

Any information about Ubuntu, please post.
@unfa, I'd love to see a YouTube video for this! ;)

Perhaps. I've never thought of LMMS' MIDI support as conventional though.

Wouldn't it be more a matter of a driver that supplies a virtual midi port
to the OS?

Yeah, there is MIDI controller apps for iOS and Android that allow you to
use your tablet/phone as a midi input device. However, I don't think LMMS
supports MIDI over wifi.

Having a remote midi interface via tablet or phones would be a big win,
especially for drum pads. Is there something like this out there? Unfa? :)

That sounds pretty fiddly and unproductive to me. I'm willing to be
convinced otherwise though! Also, it would be worth focusing on shorter
term goals and push something like an Android port/app out to a longer
termunless someone picks it up.

I have hatched a very interesting idea. We can take lmms and put it on
android and basicalyl have it connect to ones laptop via blue tooth and you
can produce a song by controlling stuff via lmms for android, in otherwords
like a tv remote control so to speak.

I would love to work on an android port. the nicest thing about android we
dont need to have a java based version. currently there is something called
the NDK which will allow someone to take a native c/c++ app and compile it
for android.

I guess we'd need a crew of people dedicated to write such an app.
LMMS-mini?
I guess it's not gonna happen very soon, as we have lots of things to do.
This is to be kept in mind, maybe written down as a ticket so it won't
disappear.

QML frontend designed to sit on the current backend could negate the
need for a full rewrite. I know some things are simply hard coded, and
it might be really hard to separate... but it might be worth considering
further down the line.

What I am trying to say is that we can do somethign similar where we can allow
people to compose music and make changes to a track on the mobile device and
it will appear in lmms. So basically you dont need to work directly on your
pc.

You say not support mobile devices. Take a look at the libreoffice remote which
allows you to control presentations over blue tooth from ones tablet. I think
we could do the same.

I think as discussed previously SVG's are the way to go especially with
such a wide range of devices from mobile devices to very large screens it
would make things easier im sure. as well it would prepare us for a mobile
version if we so desire to target mobile platforms.
