You may also have been using phpbb2, we're on 3. phpbb3's recommended hardening measures include nothing about the database and I'm skeptical as to your hypothetical recommendation in general. A relational database engine can deny non-local authentication requests but this is default in MySQL. Y

I need to dig it up again but basically its some hardening measures at the database level. On my forums i got spam registrations big time and as soon as I made those changes, the spam registrations stopped completely. As soon as I find it again I will send it to you guys for your feedback. On M
