Dear ASL Community, The following statement was approved by the ASL Council to be sent to all ASL members: "Tuna Altinel, a longtime member of the Association for Symbolic Logic, is a Turkish citizen who works in France at Université Lyon 1, and who signed a recent petition by Academics for Peace. When he visited Turkey in April, his passport was confiscated so that he could not return to France. On May 11 he was arrested, and he remains in jail. "The Association for Symbolic Logic condemns this violation of Professor Altinel’s human rights and demands that he be immediately released, have his passport returned, and be allowed to leave the country, so that he can resume his teaching and research in France."
