I wasn't sure whether you are using the ltsp sound package from the LTSP
contrib area or from the K12LTSP group.
Using RedHat 7.2 and LTSP 3.0 I installed the sound package provided by
the K12LTSP group. I did not modify any install.sh. It comes as an RPM
so I installed it the RPM way

Does it not offer KDE as a choice, or do you get an error ?
Have you modified /etc/X11/prefdm to force GDM or XDM ?
Have you modified /etc/sysconfig/desktop ?
What Distro/Version of linux are you using ?

I downloaded the rpm sound package from K12LTSP. I had previously installed
the ltsp core, kernel & X packages from tar files that I obtained from
ltsp.org. The sound rpm complained that the core was not installed, even
though it was by tar. I used the "nodeps" flag & installed it (over the

If you want to install the LTSP from RPMS, I suggest moving the
/opt/ltsp directory out of the way first.
Then, you can load the LTSP rpm packages.
As for the sound, that is one area that I haven't spent any time
on, so I really can't help much. Other than, is there an
option in lts.conf th

I can move the ltsp tree aside and install the complete package from RPMs.
I'll uninstall the sound RPM first. I'm just not sure if the many libraries
and modified scripts (e.g. /etc/, /usr/X11R6/, etc) will be damaged. It's
hard to keep track of all of them. I would get the RPMs from ltsp.o
Rob,
Removing the sound rpm first, then renaming the /opt/ltsp directory
sounds like the way to go.
