You need to type this two commands as toor (my example
is five times what you already have, though you may
use any other number you want):
echo 40960 > /proc/sys/fs/file-max
echo 40960 > /proc/sys/fs/file-nr

Ed,
It's not a disk image, it's just a couple of blocks of
of stuff that gets written to the boot sector of the floppy.
Actually, I think it is the 512 byte boot sector + 32k of
etherboot code.

I did not get an error. I just figured that a disk image would be the
size of a disk! I must just be over-thinking this!

What is the error and what did you do exactly ?

I dont remember rihgt now exactly but in /proc/sys/net...
there is an entry with this name. You got to increment this value.

Actually openmosix would _definately_ provide help in that department. I believe you
can just mount the srver root as the node root and have all the clients lok _exactly_
like the server with no fancy work needed. As to openmosix you really need to look in
to it. JohnHopkins Universty used it to
Ed,
The size of 36k sounds just about right. You should
then dd it, using something like:
dd if=filename of=/dev/fd0
If that fails, tell us what error you got.

I see nothing wrong with a 386 as a terminal, if you
could make a 8086 than better still but it doesn't
work with any kernel that I know, you use LINKS for
web browser and the many many other packages of linux
that don't need a GUI, and if you work at the speed
of the server than it has to fly!,
I made a boot disk at http://www.rom-o-matic.net/5.0.4/ .
I selected a "Floppy Bootable Rom Image" for an rtl8139.
The file it generated which I downloaded with Mozilla on my RH machine
was 36864 bytes.
I expected a 1.44 Mb file. the image I got did not work when I dd'ed or
cat'ed it to /dev/fd0.
If Linux supports it then ltsp supports it.

William,
I'm guessing that by having XSERVER = auto, it is detecting the
card and trying to use a version 4 Xserver module, but your
XF86Config.ws001 file might be in version 3 format.
Try setting XSERVER = XF86_SVGA
make sure you have the ltsp_x336_svga package installed.

All,
Anybody have LTSP running on RH 8.1(phoebe)?. I need kernel 2.4.20+ to
run Intel 845GL chipset. So far, SuSe 8.1(2.4.19) and RH 8.2 are the
only things that run correctly on the 845.

I would take the hard drive out of 2 computers, and

This way the 3 computers use 1 hard drive
maybe a second hd on the server machine to handle

Again, there is some variation in the perceived meaning of thin/fat client.
I interpret them as relating to
processor/ram capabilities. . . . . "fat" being, maybe 300MHz + and 32MB+
Etherboot with, or without LTSP is usually "diskless", though a local
disk may be usefull as swap space. BOTH keep

There used to be an etherboot group, driven, I think, by Ken Yap. This
is where I started with diskless clients, but that movement seems to
have fizzled out.
Basically, it had a netbootable kerner, and a root f/s per client. I
would like to do this again, as I will be using VIA boards
