i think your nfs server is not responding,
check exportfs command in server check that
/opt/ltsp/i386 is listed.
Check NFS server is running.

I have LTSP server installed, clients now boot with diskietts and all
works great. Two days ago i wanted to test booting from my intel PRO/100+
NIC and i'm confused becouse i can't get it work.
My OS is RedHat 9.0, ltsp_kernel-3.0.11(dhcpd --version is
isc-dhcpd-V3.0.1rc12) with PXE and Et
I've heard of more than 1 person having trouble with XDM on Gentoo,
where KDM and GDM have worked fine.
If you have checked your iptables and any other things that could
cause a XDM problem, You might try switching to KDM or GDM.

I am using Gentoo but I think that was not the issue. I actually gave up,
installed Gnome and GDM and it worked right off the bat. Rather irritating
as I was hoping to keep the server as close to vanilla as possible but c'est
la vie. Maybe I'll go back and look at it
