Setting X_VIDEORAM = 2048 tells the Xserver that the video card has 2mb of ram. BUT, it doesn't tell the video card to actually have that ram. For that, you'd probably have to go into the bios config, and tell it you want to give the video card 2mb of the system ram. I suspect that's the reason
