Hi James, to clarify as you suggested :-
The terminal boots as far as the 'blue' screen with the X cursor (the
mouse pointer shows.) ie I am getting the X session with no login.
On the terminals which are working properly, the login prompt appears.
the blue screen is not the flash screen.
