The teacher_tool looks really nice, but when I compiled it on my box
(Debian Testing) it compiled correctly, but showed that no users were
logged on. I contacted the author of the program, a
I set up all the LTSP users to utilize a proxy by default by editing the
global /defaults/pref/firefox.js file. That works as long as the
user doesn't change their own settings (overriding the system default).
How about transparent proxying with mandatory authentication? That way, it
doesn't ma

Just want to throw my 2 cents in...
I had a problem with screensavers also, Ubuntu 6.06 with LTSP 4.2
update4. Approx. 12 thin clients. Some thin clients would lock up
randomly and need to be rebooted, I found that screensavers were the
problem, once disabled on all desktops, no more locking up.

Uhhh - Part 2 is a FAT, which works, and part 4 is NTFS and seems empty;
partition 5 (which is ext2, and has the data I care about) is apparently
not going to be available. Knoppix mounts the partitions just fine - and

FYI, I now have an icon for partition 2 (which is NTFS) and it's there,
but it was unable to recognize the partition type for partition 4
(extended), puts an icon for it on the desktop and ignores the partition 5
(ext3) it detected in the prior step.
Can I mount it manually?

I suppose. People do like their screensavers, but I can turn them off.
I'm not sure that will wolve the problem of the screens locking up, though.

I was using an xterm. Since then, I have moved to a new workstation and
made a new dhcpd.conf entry for it; I now have the right value in $DISPLAY
- but still it doesn't work. I just installed the package from:

Do you have screensavers turned on and set to "random" by default?
(if you do, you should really go into gconf-editor and disable
screensavers as a mandatory setting. Screensavers bad)

Thanks

You could also just use fl_teachertool which allows you to send a pop-up
message to
names you pick from a list of logged-in users, etc. It comes with K12LTSP (and
was
written by a teacher on the K12LTSP list).

Here's a weird one. I've got a lot of ltsp terminals running here (by
which I mean probably 30 which may or may not be a lot). they all run
the same gnome desktop in ubuntu with the same power settings. Most
have the same monitor.
But some of them put the monitor into rest mode (going dark)
