Those who are lucky enough to have gigabyte cards and ports everywhere 
are
fine. However, if economy is needed having an unmanaged switch like the 
one
from TP-Link, TP-SL1117 which has 16 ports which are 10/100 mbps and 
one
additional port which is 1000 mbps (cost in Greece was 53 euros) will 
be a
welcome improvement provided the ltsp server has a gigabyte network 
card.

Whether the server has one or two network cards the gigabyte card 
should be
connected to such a switch where the clients are also connected. If 
there
is a separate connection for the server to have Internet access this 
need not
be with a gigabyte card on the server.

To maximise the benefit of the clients all connecting with the server 
the
following options (in order of better benefit before lesser) are:

1 - disable hardware flow control (if possible) on the server's 
gigabyte nic.
2 - disable hardware flow control (if possible) on the switch.
3 - limit the rate of the data that the server sends to the clients.

This is what I have understood from all of the above.
