Hi,

I’ve set up a more complex environment, a mixed DHCP-Proxy and FAT-Client.

Due to „official“ constraints our LTSP server could not be a DHCP-Server,
it has to be a DHCP-Proxy.

So I installed the common LTSP server with 10.10-Ubuntu-Alternate-CD a
some days ago, disabled the dhcp3 server and enabled the DNSMasq using this
HowTo:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/ProxyDHCP

Subsequently I installed the FAT-Client-Chroot using this HowTo:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/FatClients

But I have still the following issues in it.

1. The clients are able to get their IP from the DHCP server and their pxe
image
from the LTSP-Sever and to boot the kernel and init via NBD. But the cannot
start
the LDM. (a few times it ends in busybox, but this might be another problem).

This can be circumvented by removing the autoconf=dhcp option in the
pxelinux.cfg/default
and the LDM come up and it is possible to login.

2. The second one that might be related, is the internet connectivity in the
client.
After user login the clients have their correct IPs, but no internet acces,
So I’ve inserted the DNS server and the search domain in my lts.conf (which
is in the TFTP tree).
It does not solves the problem, but i recognized that the client has no route
to the gateway x.x.x.254.
If I add a route as root with „ ip route add x.x.x.254“ manually, the client
has regular internet access.

I’ve tried to work around the problem by placing a script which calls the
route in /etc/init.d in the
chroot enviromnet, update the image and enable the script in the lts.conf via

RCFILE_01=/etc/init.d/gateway. Unfortunetly it seems that it isn’t invoked
during client.

Hope anybody can help me.

P.S. One last question: Does the lts.conf effects fat-clients at all?
