I had a similar problem but wasn´t with CD-ROMs devices;
If u load the module manually after boot does that work?

I am using redhat 8.0 with 2.4.18-17.8.0 kernel and 2.4.19 ltsp-kernel.
I have insert into /opt/ltsp/i386/bin the file /bin/loadkeys of kernel
2.4.18-17.8.0.
Remapping the keyboard in the rc.local file with the command 'loadkeys

layout
