Xtian,
You need to take a look at your kdmrc file. That contains
pointers to all of the scripts that will run during the login
process.

But, the background on KDM screen login is the grey style of X. Not a
problem, but looking at /etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config, it (sppose) call a
script called Xsetup_workstation that do a xsetroot -solid and so on.
