Thanks for the tip - this seems to be the best option my equipment.
No mouse droppings and something I didn't expect: It's 18% faster
with "NoAccel" than with "Accel" and 23 % faster than "VESA".
I did some crude measurements using "x11perf" to get these
results.

Tom, try this in the lts.conf:
XSERVER= nsc
X_DEVICE_OPTION_01 = NoAccel

persisted.
It finally went away when I enabled the shadow framebuffer:
