I must have done something wrong with my initrd.gz. I noticed that my terminal did not get any kernel error messages with the 2.09pre4 lpp kernel and initrd, so I tried booting the nonlpp kernel with the lpp initrd.gz and it worked with pxegrub with no kernel errors.
