Ernst, I believe I once had to set up 4 Compaq Deskpro systems (model 2100, I think) as LTSP workstations. I also installed a PCI video card in each one because the onboard one was either not supported or had insufficient video RAM.
Make sure you have gone into the BIOS and disabled the onboard video! XFree86 will not know which one to use unless you do this.
