I finally got the suse 8.1 logon screen by specifying "X_COLOR_DEPTH = 8"
in the lts.conf file. Default is 16 which needs more video RAM than my
video chipset has (1 mb). I have "XSERVER = XF86_SVGA". Thank you for
taking the time to get me going in the right direction Pedro.

1.- ok enter here
http://www.hut.fi/Misc/Electronics/faq/vga2rgb/calc.html
2.- choose a custom screen mode
3.- press on 'set mode parameters to form bellow'
4.- press on 'calculate'
5.- copy the 'Xfree86 modeline'
It will give you a value like this (one line)
Modeline "800x600" 40 800 84
I tried them but no cigar. The "vga" almost worked with a crack and
screen flash. Is there a list of video hardware and drivers somewhere??

I have an Intel Professional WS (LP486DX33) as the diskless WS and SUSE

know what to put for XSERVER in lts.config file or which XF-86 module to
download and install on the server. "XSERVER = auto" does not work. Can
