Hi team, Just been tidying up a few issues with my rc.local script, as we run local apps here on our workstations and have been investigating some very slow bootup pauses on the ltsp clients.
We run Redhat 7.3 , kernel 2.4.18, on our servers and workstations. Actually our configuration is a hang over from the version 2.07 days. I have noticed on some of our ltsp server sites, that the workstation may pause for up to about two minutes, before displaying the xdm login screen. By a process of elimination, the cause seems to be the portmap daemon, even though the workstation continues processing the rc.local script, it takes a few minutes for the login screen to appear, ie. sits there saying switching to init level 5. Removing the portmapper entry, seems to eliminate this delay and so far, the workstation seems to run fine ?? I have seen mention that if the nfs directories are mounted with the 'nolock' option, then portmapper is not needed ? Is this true and is there any other reason my portmap needs to be running on the ltsp clients, with local app support ?
