Check for interrupt conflicts with the card - is it sharing an IRQ with
another device?  You can check this during boot up as most machines these
days show a screen listing the IRQs of detected PCI devices.

As Francis A. suggested in answer to someone else's Q, try changing the
card to operate at 10 mb/s rather than the default 100, as your client
machine may be unable to drive the 8139 at 100 mb/s.  You can change the
cfg using a Dos .exe which Realtek provides.
