Ole, The bzImage that is included with the 2.09pre4 kernels is assuming that you will first be loading an initrd as your root filesystem. Then, the /linuxrc script will take care of mounting the NFS filesystem and then do a pivot_root to make the NFS filesystem root.
Take a look at the buildk script, included in the ltsp_initrd_kit. It should give you an idea of the kernel commandline options you need.
