Hi Ken,

Sorry I havent used proftp and i am not familiar with it.  Anyway, please make sure 
that the proftp your talking 
about here is not the client but the server (daemon) version (proftpd and not proftp). 
 What i know is proftpd 
(the server version) comes in tgz form only. tgz installations are a bit more 
complicated than its RPM 
counterpart.

I suggest you try the RPM tftp-server version first.

I have a Mandrake 8.1 distro and the tftp server software is already in one of the CDs 
(tftp-server-0.17-
6mdk.i586.rpm). Proftp did not come with it.

You may try the link below for a newer version:
ftp://ftp.rpmfind.net/linux/Mandrake/8.2/i586/Mandrake/RPMS/tftp-server-0.17-7mdk.i586.rpm

Installation is much simplier. Make sure though that you remove proftpd before 
installing the RPM package 
above.
