I agree with Eric, but respectfully disagree on LCD's. I work on two

switched to LCD and the deskspace freed up to place logging notes or
other useful information while producing video is most welcome. I don't

Hi,
It sounds like mysqld is not running based on your description.
Are you sure the mysqld process running? I usually check this by doing a
'ps aux' to see what processes are running. mysqld needs to be running for
you to be able to use mysql.
I can start this process manually by running safe_m
Hey,
Welp, I'm a bit frustrated with PAM. Maybe my brain is dull. Does anyone
have any pointers to good PAM tutorials out there? The one I read is
written in such a way that if I was at that level I wouldn't need the
tutorial in the first place :P
I gather disabling PAM to run proftpd is proba
Hi All,
I'm kinda stumped, I still can't seem to connect via Dreamweaver (DMX).
DMX is set up to use passive FTP, and when I click on the 'test' button in
DMX, plink fires up with it's session, and I can log in with my username
and password. After logging in and minimizing the plink window, it

Wow...OK. Welp I'll chuck wu-ftpd out (dang, just got the RPMS and
installed it) and get proftpd and give that a shot.
Really appreciate the info and the explanation. It all makes sense, but
wrapping my head around tunnels gives me headaches :P
I'll let ya'll know how it goes onc

Hi Folks!
I'd like to use Dreamweaver's Remote folder facility for working with
files that are on my RedHat 7.3 server. Dreamweaver is set up so that
it'll use SSH to connect to the remote server. They even provide links to
putty.exe and plink.exe. (I've used putty for SSH connections and like
Hiya,
I use it and it's been very useful.

Hah...never mind. Didn't realize grep could do a recursive search. Still
not finding what I'm looking for though. Dang, must be embedded in a DB
field somewhere...ugh

Aloha folks.
I'm trying to change some source in PostNuke, but can't seem to find the
file that holds the source I'm trying to change. I've searched and tried
the IRC channels but haven't found an answer yet.
However, I do know some of the unique text I'd like to change in the
source file (bas
Hiya,
Check your httpd.conf file. It should be set in there. Do a search for the
keyword "UserDir" and that should get you in the zone.
Normally you'd get to it by going to:

Where 'yourdomain' is your domain name, and 'username' is your username on

Hiya,
Thanks for the response guys!
I think I found the abuse.net test site earlier, and it passed all the
tests, but I was wondering if somehow this bozo was getting through.
What's really irritating was that it was coming from that IP every 20
minutes.
I added the IP to hosts.deny and resta
Hiya,
Still getting used to my new RH 7.3 setup, and was wondering about some
logwatch entries I've been getting.
I see entries in logwatch showing a lot of mail for unknown users. They
have what appear to be random names with my domain attached to the end.
There was a whole slew of them all g

Hi folks!
I'm building a new machine for myself to tinker with, and I've got RH 7.2
pro boxed set that I bought awhile back. I have a couple of questions
though.
1) Is it worth going out and buying the boxed RH7.3 set, or is it cheaper
to just burn a copy of RH7.3 and buy the yearly subscription?
Hmmm
I think that Euro's do dates : DD/MM/YY and us Yanks do dates

So I'd imagine they'd be referring to the same date. The time appears to
be within minutes of each other.

Yeah...I still use email, but the AP style guide (used by many journalists
and reporters uses the hyphenated style; e-mail). No preference is noted
in a newer websters between either though.
Does it really matter all that much if we know what the author meant? :)

Hi Guys!
I'm rebuilding an old setup (PII-266 w/ 256MB RAM, 40GB drive) and want to
