Hi Everyone,
Has anyone approached the various community colleges or the University of
Hawaii, in regards to finding people who want to help out with HOSEF or just
learn more about Linux/Open Source?
Being a student at LCC, I had the opportunity to approach one of the
computer science faculty. I
Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know how to uninstall GNOME from Redhat 8, so that I can use
just the "plain" X-Windows manager?
I tried using the RPM GUI, but it only allowed me to uninstall "extra" GNOME
packages, not the "standard" ones, which I assume are needed to run GNOME.
Thanks!
Hi Everyone,
Let me reiterate the title of my post by saying that Redhat 8.0 is rather
slow on my laptop (P2 300Mhz 128MB Ram). I am assuming that this could be
caused by Gnome/KDE (I'm not sure which is running, I get confused by this)
since it appears to be very graphics intensive.

Thanks Monmotha!
The information you have provided has been very helpful.
To get a little more specific, here is my current situation:
I have a PCMCIA NIC (Netgear FA411), which was recognized by Debian Woody
during installation. No drivers were required for installation and I was
able to access
Hi Everyone,
There are some issues that are not entirely clear
to me when I run "insmod".
Here is an example:
After entering the following command: # insmod tlan.o
I recieve the following message: TLAN driver, v1.0, (C) 1997-8 Caldera, Inc.
Should there be more to the message than this
Hi Everyone,
Lately I have been experimenting with Linux on my laptop, mainly Redhat and
Debian (I think it is Woody), which Scott was kind enough to lend to me the
other Saturday. Anyways, being stuck at home with the flu has given me some
free time to "experiment" more. I have Linux up and runni
Hi Everyone,
Newbie question:
I'm trying to determine how big my linux partitions
should be. I have around 2GB to work with and 128MB ram.
I think I am going to go with the setup recommended
in the documentation I have. A different partition for root, home,
etc.
So, how should I deter
Hi Everyone,
I noticed that there are "educational" Saturday
meetings at Pricebusters in Stadium Mall.
What actually goes on during these
meetings?
I'm interested in attending, but being a "newbie" I
don't want to be in over my head.
Thanks!

Thanks for the links Warren!
I was looking to download Redhat 8, but even with RoadRunner it would take

Thanks again.

Hi Everyone,
If anyone can give me any suggestions, that would
be great.
I'm trying to setup my network on Redhat 5.2. My
NIC is a PCI Ethernet D-Link DFE-530TX. It seems as if my NIC is not
being recognized by Linux. People recommended I use the "tulip" module. During
the installation o

However, many people have been telling me to
upgrade to a more recent version.
Is there any benefit to learning Linux on an older
version?

Hi Everyone,
Well, I decided to take the plunge.
I had a few GB to spare on my desktop so I decided
to install Linux on it.
I used Partition Magic to move my WINXP partition
above the 1024 cylinder, which left me with enough space to install
Redhat.
Anyways, I was able to install Lin
Hi Everyone,
To everyone that replied to my previous post
regarding purchasing a laptop, thanks!
I have finally taken the plunge and shelled out
around $300 for a laptop.
(Actually it's still in the process of being, well,
"processed". I should have a confirmation order within 10 business
To everyone that responded to my previous post,
thanks!
This is a more specific version of my previous
question, but I hope everyone doesn't mind.
I wish to learn and become profecient in using
Linux, but at the moment, the only thing holding me back are my hardware
requirements and what
Hello Everyone,
For anyone that is interested, here is my
background with Linux.
My own experiences with Linux mainly involve
working with the UNIX shell account at UH. I only know the very basics of the
shell: how to change directories, create files, set permissions,
etc.
I've only in
Hello Everyone,
I am a somewhat newbie to Linux, but I want to
learn more. Since I live in Hawaii, I figured this list would be a good place to
start.
Hopefully, someone here can help me answer this
question.
I am considering purchasing the following laptop
