Hello guys,
I noticed LXmusic is in the Ubuntu lucid repo´s, I installed it on my
Ubuntu lucid desktop and after choosing an output plugin (default is
none for some reason) in the settings menu it nicely played my mp3´s and
possibly also other files.
Will the next Lubuntu (Maverick) use LXmusic in
Well, LXMusic isi a good program, but remeber that it depends on
libpango libraries and xmms2. Have anyone tested listening music music
with Gnome-MPlayer? It's perfect (reproduction lists, cover thumbnail,
etc).

I always use gnome-mplayer
mplayer is one of the oldest and most respected players out there

VLC is all I ever use. Choice is good, and with Lubuntu we seem to have
lots of choices. I removed Abiword, Gnumeric, Chromium, Sylpheed, added
Google Chrome dev, Pan, and Vlc. Doesn't really matter what the default
packages are as long as they can be removed, replaced, etc. Just my $0.02.

The problem is, we could discuss which applications to include for years and
never reach a consensus.
Chrome is good, developed regularly and efficient. The only browser I'd
include over Chrome is the newest Midori which is extremely good. Its
improved lots since it was tested for the Lucid build.
Hi,

well I still have not gotten MPlayer to play copyrighted dvd's (I think I
downloaded every codec, mythbuntu and everything else) I popped vlc on and
it worked out of the box. I know that playing dvd's is not high on the list
of things for lubuntu to do ;-)

Hello,

VLC is very very good but it brings in nasty QT dependencies and it uses
too many dependencies for Lubuntu I think. I think we should keep
Mplayer until other players like Parole become good alternatives.

Hello PCman,
so we are keeping Gnome-Mplayer, Aqualung and Chromium.
But what about replacing Pidgin by Ayttm, or are we sticking to Pidgin?
And why has Sylpheed been chosen instead of Claws, are their any
important differences?
Also, we should pick u

I wish, when I install a non-KDE non-Gnome distro, I could avoid those
dependencies, but it seems there's always one program that drags them in. I
think Sun Virtualbox requires the QTs, and Synaptic the Gnomes... but maybe
no

The only ¨true¨ gnome dependency of Brasero is the gnome icon theme.
I think it is not bad.

Although I might heavily regret it later on, but maybe we should stick
to (the horrible) xfburn, since Brasero does use a lot of dependencies
and is kinda slow. :(
And slow + many dependencies is unacceptable in a ¨true¨ lightweight
distro, even if the
Fully agree, but we must consider not to make the same errors than Puppy
and its derivatives. It has a bunch of UGLY applications and a hard way
to configure a few things. You cannot add drivers (like HP Scanners or
Brother printers). We're in the right way, but we need, obviously, to
improve our
Please follow the process for choosing application by default :
- 1 mail per application (using 1 mail for several and polemic
application is just a mess)
- Use 1 wiki page to follow the discussion, and if possible the same
