sorry for not being more explanatory there.
you can run a command from a terminal and then add *&disown* after the
command to disown it from the terminal. Then if you close the terminal
the program will still be running. If you don't disown the program from
that terminal it will close

I have a laptop lenovo x61s. Is has no spdif out connector.
This laptop has as audiochip the AD1984
Pin 48 from that chip has spdif out. From that pin I connected a coax cable
(via 0.1 uf condendator) to an external dac.
In lubuntu 13 audacious (alsa) sees the analog and DIGITAL ad198
