if you are using pulseaudio (e.g. Lubuntu after 16.10) you have to change
settings via the application "pavucontrol" (tab: configuration). With versions
earlier than 16.10 you have to configure ALSA via amixer. Check with "cat
/proc/asound/cards" for hardware and set it with "amixer -c
