Hi Nio
This is just to inform you that I have successfully installed lubuntu 13.10
grub-n-iso to dual-boot with windows xp with 510MB of RAM. Everything went
fine following these instructions:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/grub-n-iso
The only problem I had was greenish/purple colours on the bac

Good luck!
I think the lubuntu-core image can be useful for other people.
And please report back, when you have results from 'grub-n-iso' :-)
I think 'grub-n-iso' will install, but if not (due to low RAM), consider
installing with the OBI, before or at the end of life of XP.

Thank you Nio and sorry for wasting your time.
It must have take a lot of time and effort to create the image and upload
it to the site.
I hope there will be people who will use your lubuntu-core image.
I've downloaded Lubuntu-13.10-desktop-grub-n-iso-n-swap.img.gz and will
install it when I get my

Thank you very much Nio.
I've just read OBI documentation and discovered to my horror that it cannot
be used for dualboot system which is what I had in mind :(
I don't want to get rid of Windows XP on my laptop.
Is there any way of installing the latest Lubuntu without starting from
non-pae mini.is
Hi, Kadrija,
It was fairly easy but not quite straight-forward to make a Lubuntu Core
tarball from the Ubuntu 13.10 mini.iso. Please test it and let us know
how it works for you :-)
I have uploaded a tarball with the following md5sum and name to phillw.net
3d3064f982681bc1c78624d16062e6b9 tarba
That's good Kadrija,
Now I know what to make:
Lubuntu core with fake-pae.
Best regards

Hi Nio
I would prefer to have it just with fake-pae flag and no other
customisations if possible.

Hi Kadrija,
I see. Yes I can make such a tarball and upload it.
How do you think such a tarball is most useful? Would you prefer to
have it as pure as possible, even without fake-PAE? (It will boot and
run, but you need to install fake-PAE in order to upgrade the kernel.)

I meant it would be nice to have a tarball with lubuntu-core instead of the
full lubuntu-desktop system.
I have a no-pae flag laptop and I prefer a minimal lubuntu-core system to
which I can add things I need.

Hi Kadrija,
Do you mean that the OBI itself should have lubuntu-core? It is possible
to install it. When running the OBI, use the command
sudo apt-get install lubuntu-core
Or do you mean that t
Well, in theory yes.
You need to wait a reply from Nio if he can do that or make it yourself.
Simply create your install with just what you need and then start your
system with OBI usb and create the tarball from the menu. Quite easy.

Tested. After putting the xorg.conf on my usb the system started
without issues and all goes well.
Now you need to concentrate on OBI installer. :D
