For lustre, do I have to have a particular kernel version? Or can I
compile it into any kernel?
Also, once I patch the kernel using quilt, how do I know that my
patches are compiled into the kernel?

If it a client is hanging because a OST/OSS is down, I would like to
know which OST is down thats all.
I don't want clients to complain...
